A particular kind of alloy steel, which is used to make these fasteners, is renowned for its remarkable strength and resilience to corrosive conditions and high temperatures. As part of the ASTM A193 specification, ASTM International has defined a certain alloy steel grade known by the name "B7." The addition of chromium and molybdenum to this type of steel improves its overall durability, hardness, and strength. B7 steel typically has 0.35% to 0.45% carbon, 0.90% to 1.20% chromium, and 0.15% to 0.25% molybdenum. These elements work in concert to give the steel its exceptional mechanical qualities.
The resilience of B7 fasteners at high temperatures is one of their main characteristics. They can be used in high-heat situations where other materials could fail since they can withstand temperatures as high as 600°F (315°C) without losing their mechanical qualities. B7 fasteners can withstand heavy loads and stresses because of their good tensile strength, which typically ranges from 125,000 to 150,000 psi (pounds per square inch).
