High-strength, heat-resistant alloy steel, Alloy Steel F91 (also known as ASTM A182 F91), is widely utilized in high-temperature applications, especially in the petrochemical and power generation sectors. This particular grade of steel is highly desirable in challenging applications due to its exceptional mechanical qualities and resistance to oxidation and creep at increased temperatures. Iron makes up the majority of F91 steel, with molybdenum and chromium serving as important alloying components. Its average chemical composition is about 1% molybdenum and 9% chromium. Excellent strength and hardness are imparted by this combination, even at temperatures as high as 1000°F (540°C). Good oxidation resistance is provided by the chromium content, and creep resistance and overall strength at high temperatures are improved by the molybdenum presence.
Round bar is a typical form of F91 steel that finds use in heat exchangers, boiler components, turbine blades, and other applications. Applications needing high tensile strength and resistance to thermal fatigue are best suited for the round bar form. To provide the required mechanical qualities, these bars are made using techniques including forging and hot rolling, which are then heat treated.
