High-performance alloys like Duplex Steel S31803 and S32205 are renowned for their superior mechanical qualities and corrosion resistance. These alloys belong to the family of stainless steels known as duplex, which blends the qualities of ferritic and austenitic stainless steels. The original grade is S31803, and the revised version, S32205, has stronger and more corrosion resistance. The dual-phase microstructure of both grades, with roughly equal amounts of austenite and ferrite, is what distinguishes them. Together with excellent resistance to stress corrosion cracking, pitting, and crevice corrosion, its special structure also bestows high strength and strong ductility.
When compared to typical austenitic stainless steels, S31803 and S32205 both have strong tensile and yield strengths in terms of mechanical qualities. For example, S31803's tensile strength usually surpasses 80 ksi (550 MPa), but S32205 performs marginally better, especially in corrosive situations.
