High-performance nickel-chromium superalloy Hastelloy X is well-known for its remarkable strength and resistance to oxidation and corrosion at elevated temperatures. Hastelloy X is commonly utilized in aerospace and industrial settings, where it excels in situations where materials must withstand harsh temperatures. Examples of these environments include gas turbines, jet engines, and furnace components. Nickel (around 47–50%), chromium (19–21%), and molybdenum (8–10%) make up the majority of the alloy, with lesser amounts of iron, cobalt, and other metals. Its high chromium concentration offers superior oxidation resistance, while the molybdenum increases its strength at high temperatures. The ability of Hastelloy X to retain its mechanical qualities at temperatures as high as 2200°F (1200°C) is important for parts that are subjected to high-temperature gasses.
The alloy's resistance to carburization and sulfurization, which can deteriorate other materials under comparable circumstances, is one of its main advantages. Because of this, Hastelloy X is a great option for situations where the alloy will be exposed to environments that contain sulfur or carburizing agents.
