Round bars of stainless steel 310 and 310S are high-temperature alloys that are perfect for harsh situations because of their superior resistance to oxidation and corrosion. These materials are frequently employed in settings with high temperatures and corrosive environments. Austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel 310 has a strong resistance to oxidation and corrosion, even at high temperatures. Compared to other stainless steels, it has better resistance to scaling and thermal expansion since it normally contains 25% chromium and 20% nickel. Because of its resistance to temperatures as high as 1,100°C (2,012°F), this alloy is frequently employed in applications such as furnace parts, heat exchangers, and chemical processing equipment.
A reduced carbon version of 310 steel, stainless steel 310S improves weldability and resistance to sensitization. While its chromium and nickel composition is significantly lower (around 24% chromium and 20% nickel), it still has a lot of the 310 grade's high-temperature capabilities. Intergranular corrosion may result from carbide precipitation, which is less likely in 310S due to its lower carbon concentration. For applications where weldability is a major concern or where there is considerable temperature cycling, 310S is therefore recommended.
