A specific kind of pipe noted for its superior strength at high temperatures and resistance to corrosion is the stainless steel 316Ti pipe. With the inclusion of titanium, they improve upon the usual 316 stainless steel. This alteration increases the steel's resistance to intergranular corrosion, or the corrosion that happens along the steel's grain boundaries. High temperatures can cause this kind of corrosion to occur in many other forms of stainless steel. The main applications for 316Ti stainless steel pipes are those with high temperatures or corrosive chemicals present. The alloy's carbon is stabilized by the titanium presence, preventing the chromium carbide production that could cause intergranular corrosion. Because of this, 316Ti pipes are especially well-suited for use in high-temperature operations found in the chemical, petrochemical, and maritime sectors.
Excellent mechanical qualities, such as strong tensile strength and flexibility, define the pipes. Even at far higher temperatures than typical stainless steel grades—up to about 870°C/1600°F—they retain their strength and structural integrity. Because of this, they can be used in settings with high pressure and high temperatures.
