A high-carbon variation of stainless steel 347H, known as 347H, is an alloy designed to provide enhanced resistance against oxidation and corrosion at elevated temperatures. This material is a favorite in the petrochemical, power generation, and aerospace industries because it is especially well-suited for applications involving severe heat and harsh environments. Stainless Steel 347H is primarily alloyed with chromium, nickel, and niobium. Compared to its counterpart with a lower carbon content, 347H has a higher carbon content, which improves its strength and creep resistance at higher temperatures. Because of this, 347H is perfect for uses where stability and strength in high temperatures are crucial. Intergranular corrosion can result from sensitization, which can happen to other stainless steels and stabilize the alloy against it. Niobium plays a part in this process.
